In every person there are two people; One is awake in the darkness, the other asleep in the light.
Winter is hard. The great endless dark, the cold, the damp… Each winter day I wake and wonder why there is so much disarray… each night I wonder why darkness arrived hours’ way to early…
Even though the winter months are dark, and difficult, and dank, there is a reason why we travel through them. Without the darkness, we would never appreciate the beauty of the light.
Although the light is beautiful, the dark, also has its beauty.
Sometimes, the light at the end of the tunnel is actually an on-coming train… and sometimes, it is the rising of the new day filled with opportunity. Sometimes we have to flatten ourselves against the wall so the train does not crush us, yet sometimes the dark, is that moment of peace, where we can gather, grow, and develop the strength we need to survive. Being human is not an easy assignment, and each day we have to embrace those things that give us the strength and the will to carry on.
2024 has opened… 2023 has passed. It was a difficult year. The behaviors of 2023 are still a reflection of the difficulties we are experiencing in 2024. We can close our eyes and pretend the troubles of the past few years have subsided, or…we can dig deep into pockets of recognition, reaching for unconditional love, even when it is challenging. We can stand, and be counted, and move the needle forward into a time of utter honesty, that allows forgiveness, encouraging change, and casting aside judgement.
We can acknowledge the difficulties, open our eyes, and make the decision to step firmly and deliberately into the light. Sometimes the light is blinding… And we just want to close our eyes and wait until there is twilight. Even in those moments, we can summon the courage to lend our brilliance, becoming conjoined and united with all who are givers into the light. Becoming Unity.
Each of us, all of us, around this world, have the power to change the behaviors of those who cause harm, and the outcomes of that harm. Believe this. We can alter those who cause the darkness to be stronger than the light. It begins today, with each of us, with you. I believe we have the power to cause the light to be stronger, and richer, than the darkness.
It is why at the end of the perpetual darkness, the sun rises, the air warms, the plants grow again, why we believe that the garlic we planted in October will be harvested in July and that we will still be here, to do the harvest. This is faith and why we breath in life. This is always the everlasting miracle.
I don’t know how or why… I just know. I know this from the many years I have watched the light radiate through the darkness. I know that goodness can overcome evil, and that the will and fortitude of the those who lift up the understanding of non-judgment, acceptance, and release, to that which is more powerful and greater than each of us, is that which is victorious. That which personifies deep and abiding love.
Each and every one of us has this power, collectively, to change the darkness and shadows of the world, into the bright beginning of new day. As we move into a brand new year let us bring our collective energy into visualizing a world where there is peace, kindness, courage, radical compassion, care, grace, love, and understanding. Let us see a world where there is no need for power or for anger. Where children can sleep without fear. Where there are no bombs, no guns, no swords. Where there is unity.
Where we might not agree, but we do not judge. Where we honor one another.
Where we understand the true meaning of freedom.
A world where there is no hunger. Where food, shelter, clean water, and safety is a right, not a privilege.
This is how we change, how we grow, how we release, how we empower and acknowledge.
Let us dance with abandon, sing with joy, laugh with relief.
Let the tears well up with gratitude and fall gently into the river of life and hope.
Let us, each of us… commit to walking out of the darkness and contributing our beauty, our exuberance, our creativity, and our wonder to the glory of the light.
Let each of us be Love, not as a feeling, but as an action.
Let Us all Be Keepers of the Flame..Let this be so.
