Next Step
The Next Step training program offers nutritional education through 5 no-cost, monthly hands on classes, that include information on how to create nutritionally dense meals utilizing donated foods and purchases on a limited budget. Information about safe ingredients, label reading, food safety, food borne illnesses, knife skills, and other useful food preparation tips are also prioritized. Taking place in one of OSL's five hosted kitchens, the Next Step classes are given inside a lab setting and are open to all who participate in OSL meals, including, but not limited to OSL clients, residents of OSL Partner Facilities, Volunteers, Meal Providers, Food Banks, and the general population. Next Step also hires individuals trained with basic meal prep skills and offers a more advanced culinary arts education. We focus on those who live un-housed, in shelters, or are economically challenged.
