Food In Motion
OSL’s Food In Motion program (FIM) is currently rescuing, procuring, and redistributing more than 158,601 pounds of donated food each month. FIM is an eco-friendly program that rescues high quality ingredients that were previously slated for the waste stream; proteins such as salmon, halibut, poultry, beef, fresh fruit - fresh produce; fruit and vegetables - and quality dry goods. Our donors include, but are not limited to, restaurants, caterers, food distributors, stadiums, cruise ships, farms, and grocery stores. Sharing resources is the impetus behind FIM.
Food In Motion drivers start their day on a scheduled route to donors to collect their donations as well as from on-call donors. After the route is done, drivers return to our kitchens where we organize, sort, and redistribute the donations to where it is most needed, either internally or to our partners.
Along with rescuing food, FIM also focuses on the delivery of completed meals to shelters we are partnered with on a daily basis: breakfast/lunch/dinner. Every single day.
OSL chefs use what is needed; crafting rescued food items into complete, hot, nutritionally dense, delicious, meals, and share surplus ingredients with other meal programs and dozens of human service providers.
Food In Motion ensures that each meal OSL creates is chock-full of great tasting, quality ingredients, and then served with love, dignity and respect.
Thank you to our generous partners who helped purchase our refrigerated vehicles and/or contributed a vehicle to our fleet.
