Food In Motion
OSL’s Food In Motion program (FIM) is currently rescuing, procuring, and redistributing more than 2 million pounds of donated food annually. FIM is an eco-friendly program that recovers high quality ingredients that were previously slated for the waste stream; proteins such as salmon, halibut, poultry, beef, fresh produce; fruit and vegetables - and quality dry goods. Our donors include, but are not limited to, restaurants, caterers, food distributors, stadiums, cruise ships, farms, and grocery stores. Sharing resources is the impetus behind Food In Motion.
FIM drivers start their day on a scheduled route to donors to collect their donations as well as from on-call donors. After the route is done, drivers return to our warehouse where we organize, sort, and redistribute the donations to where it is most needed, either internally or to Meal Provider or Food Bank partners.
Along with rescuing food, FIM also focuses on the delivery of completed meals to shelters, tiny house villages, and other organizations we are partnered with on a daily basis: breakfast/lunch/dinner. Every single day of the year.
OSL chefs craft complete, hot, nutritionally dense, delicious, meals, and share surplus ingredients with other meal programs and dozens of human service providers.
Food In Motion ensures that each meal has a temperature chain of custody, and arrives inside the temperature service safety zone.
Since its inception in 2019, the care and operation of the Mobile Meal Kitchen (MMK) has been under the wing of our Food In Motion program.
Thank you to our generous partners who helped purchase our refrigerated vehicles and/or contributed a vehicle to our 18 vehicle fleet.
